A GROUP of drinkers saved a baby in a horror crash that left his gran fighting for her life.
Seven men raced from a pub after a car ploughed into Jackie Stephens, 61, and her four-month-old grandson Luke in his pushchair.
The accident left Jackie with brain damage. She was in a critical but stable condition last night.
But six of the drinkers, from the Sports-mans Arms at Heamoor, Cornwall, managed to lift the Fiesta off Luke and pull the tot free.
He escaped with just minor cuts and bruises.
Jackie’s husband Roger, 65, said: “It is a miracle Luke survived. These heroes saved my grandson’s life.”
The seven did not want to be identified.
But barmaid Faye Morris, 18, said: “We heard a huge bang outside and everybody rushed out.
“The men positioned themselves around the car and counted themselves in to lift it. Somehow they managed to untangle the buggy and pull the baby out.”
The 33-year-old driver fled the scene, but returned later and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
